The vicinity of the river Nisa can offer not only wonderful nature with many varieties (the head of the river lies at the foothills of Jizera Mountains, behind the Czech borders you can see more flatlands), but also many cultural and technical sights.
There is a lot of to see also in the cities that Nisa flows through. Jablonec nad Nisou is a town famous for producing glass and glass jewellery. Very popular place to visit is the local reservoir, which lies nearly in the middle of the city and the Jizera Mountains are so close, that it would be a sin not to visit them. In Liberec is definitely worth a visit the town hall, the zoological and botanical garden or the dominant feature of the Liberec Region: The Ještěd Mountain with a famous TV tower on the top.
Among the other places that you as a waterman and tourist should not miss, are the flooded quarry Kristýna, which functions as recreational place now, behind the borders we recommend to visit the Cistercian nunnery in Marienthal.
If the journey to Ostritz is too short for you, you can go further and visit another interesting city lying on the river Nisa – Zgorzelec. If you are fan of cycling, you should definitely visit the cycle path going alongside the river bank, which is suitable for both the experienced cyclists and beginners. Its profile is mostly flat and you can follow it up to the Baltic Sea.
